Promote soil life in your vegetable patch

Intact soil is the foundation for healthy, high-quality cereals, fruit and vegetables. Almost all of our food directly depends on healthy soil.

  • Healthy soil needs good soil management. This means that you need to nurture both plants and soil.
  • Use organic fertiliser (e.g. green manure or compost).
  • Work the soil as gently as possible (mulch and direct sowing).
  • Avoid soil compaction: keep the soil loose and moist. Do not walk on your patch after watering it.
